Previously almost uninhabitable, we started our project house renovations at the top. A new roof was first and then we gutted the space, strengthening the support beams, creating eaves storage (which we call 'the cave') and took the advice of our builder and added lots of insulation throughout. I am now an insulation convert. What was once a cold, slightly spooky space is now a haven of warmth and comfort. A guest bedroom, shower room and study now make up the top floor.
